Volunteer Opportunities at ACM
Volunteering with Age Connects Morgannwg (ACM) is a rewarding way to make a real difference in the lives of older people. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to develop new skills, we have a variety of roles to suit different interests and abilities.
Befriending Volunteer
Our Befriending Volunteers provide vital emotional support to older people who are socially isolated or experiencing loneliness, either through face-to-face visits or telephone calls. In this role, you will have regular, friendly conversations and companionship with someone who may be waiting for a befriender or prefers phone contact. We provide full training and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role. Once trained, you will be carefully matched with someone based on personality and location, and together you will agree on what they want to achieve from the service. This could include going for walks, attending activities to improve fitness, providing emotional support after bereavement, or accompanying someone to a support group or social event. Every relationship is unique, and as your client’s confidence grows, your support will gradually come to an end so you can help someone else in the future.
Community Hub Volunteer
There are lots of ways you can help by volunteering at our busy community hub in Aberdare. Whether supporting events, assisting our restaurant team, or helping at reception, you will meet a wide variety of people and gain valuable experience. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys a lively environment, working as part of a team, and directly contributing to the smooth running of our vibrant hub.
Digital Volunteer
Our Digital Volunteers help older people stay connected, independent, and informed. You could assist at our Digital Cafes, offer one-to-one support with phones and tablets, or help raise awareness at Scam Awareness events. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys technology and wants to help older people feel confident and safe online.
Fundraising Volunteer
Community Fundraisers help us raise vital funds so we can continue supporting older people in our communities. You could organise your own fundraising event or challenge, take part in one of our existing events, or encourage your workplace, friends, or family to get involved. From sponsored walks and quiz nights to workplace initiatives, every effort - big or small - helps us support older people who are vulnerable, isolated, or living in poverty. Your time, energy, and creativity will make a tangible difference to those who depend on our services.
Office Volunteer
As an Office Volunteer, you will provide essential support to our office-based team. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys organising, communicating, and helping behind the scenes. Tasks may include answering phone calls, assisting with paperwork, booking appointments, and supporting the smooth running of day-to-day office activities. By volunteering in this role, you will help the ACM team deliver its services while gaining valuable skills and experience.
Volunteer Driver
Our Volunteer Drivers provide essential transport for older people who have difficulty getting out and about. Many people become isolated when they can no longer drive or find public transport challenging, and your support can make a huge difference to their independence and quality of life. This role may involve driving clients to hospital appointments, social activities, or community events. Fuel and mileage costs are reimbursed, making it easy for you to give your time while helping older people remain connected to their communities.
