Age Connects Morgannwg joins the Befriending Network
Befriending lies at the heart of our mission. Through our Reaching Out initiative, we provide companionship and support to older people, and we’re thrilled to now be a member of the Befriending Network.
Befriending has been at the heart of Age Connects Morgannwg’s mission for many years, and since 2016,our Reaching Out initiative has been providing companionship and support to people aged 50 plus across Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, and Bridgend. Through phone calls, in-person visits, and letters or cards, we help thousands of people each year to stay connected and feel valued.
We are delighted to announce that we have now become a member of the Befriending Network, the largest global network of befriending services. Established as a charity in 1994, the network has nearly 30 years of experience supporting and connecting organisations like ours.
What the Befriending Network Offers
Membership provides us with access to:
- Sector-specific training, events, resources, and awards that help maintain high-quality befriending services.
- Opportunities to participate in Befriending Week each November (1st–7th), celebrating the vital role befriending plays in communities.
- A collaborative platform to share expertise, knowledge, and insights with other organisations, ensuring we continue to learn and adapt to the needs of those we support.
Their vision aligns closely with our own: a society where quality befriending support is available to everyone who needs it, and where the importance of meaningful human connection is recognised.
Shared Values and Mission
The network’s values resonate strongly with us:
- Supportive – sharing knowledge, listening, and understanding the experiences and needs of members.
- Collaborative – connecting with people, organisations, and each other in a respectful and effective way.
- Sector-leading – being innovative, adaptable, and resourceful while amplifying the voice of befriending services at all levels.
Their mission is to support organisations to deliver quality befriending services that promote wellbeing and meaningful connections, ensuring that everyone feels valued. They do this by maintaining an effective and connected network, providing information, training, and resources, and raising awareness of the impact befriending has in communities.
Why This Matters
Joining the Befriending Network strengthens our work in Reaching Out. It gives us access to best practice, resources, and a broader community of support, helping us ensure that every person we connect with can experience the comfort, joy, and companionship that comes from meaningful friendship.
We look forward to growing together with the network and continuing to bring connection, care, and support to older people in our communities.
