Following a robust recruitment process, Age Connects Morgannwg is pleased to announce the appointment of Daisy Cole as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Lynda Williams, Chair of Age Connects Morgannwg (ACM), expressed her delight at the appointment:

“Daisy brings a wealth of experience from leadership roles across the third sector and social policy, and she is passionate about delivering excellent services that support and empower older people. Daisy will join us at the beginning of December, and we look forward to an exciting new chapter under her leadership.”

Daisy joins ACM with extensive experience in championing the rights, wellbeing and inclusion of older people, carers, and those living with dementia and sensory loss.

As Director of Wellbeing and Empowerment for the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Daisy led the largest independent review of older people’s care homes ever conducted in the UK - A Place to Call Home. This landmark work ensured that the lived experiences of older people directly shaped legislation, national policy and inspection standards, setting a new benchmark for care quality in Wales.

She also drove major policy and service changes for people affected by dementia in Wales; leading national research rooted in the voices of people with dementia and their carers. This work informed Welsh Government guidance and supported the development of the Carers Trust Wales respite programme, transforming support for carers and families across the nation.

During her time with RNID Cymru, Daisy chaired the Welsh Government’s Ministerial Expert Group on Dementia: Hearing Loss and Deafness, uniting professionals, Deaf BSL users and people with lived experience to improve audiology and memory services and champion inclusive dementia support. She also led the £3 million JobSense partnership, supporting people with sensory loss into employment and challenging barriers to inclusion.

Daisy has also worked with Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind, where she focused on empowering teams and strengthening internal culture in a post-pandemic environment.

Reflecting on her career to date, Daisy explained her motivation for joining ACM:

“Throughout my career, I have been guided by the voices, wisdom and lived experience of older people,” said Daisy. “Having also cared for my dad, who died from dementia, and my mum who lives with it, I know the vital difference that Age Connects Morgannwg’s advocacy and support - delivered with dignity and compassion by our dedicated, expert staff and volunteers - makes each and every day.

Knowledge is power, but it is neither easy to access nor freely available to older people in a digitally complex world. ACM provides a vital lifeline of information and advice, and it is an honour to be joining this respected and life-changing organisation dedicated to championing the rights of older people across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg region.”

Age Connects Morgannwg is a long-established charity working to improve the lives of older people across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil. Since 1977, the charity has provided trusted, compassionate services including dementia support, hospital discharge assistance, nail cutting, befriending, information and advice, and operation of its community hub, Cynon Linc, in Aberdare.
