Volunteering with Age Connects Morgannwg

Volunteering with Age Connects Morgannwg is about giving your time to do something useful and rewarding. Whether you are supporting an older person directly, helping at our busy community hub, assisting with administration, or helping with fundraising and events, your contribution makes a real difference. Every hour you give helps older people stay connected, supported, and independent.

No qualifications are necessary – all you need is a little free time, a big heart, and a good sense of humour! When a suitable opportunity becomes available we will provide all the training and guidance you need to feel confident in your role, and we make sure you have opportunities to learn, grow, and enjoy yourself along the way. You can submit an expression of interest in volunteering here and we will let you know when a suitable opportunity becomes available.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving; it’s also about gaining. Many of our volunteers say that their time with ACM has been incredibly rewarding in ways they never expected. Here are just some of the benefits:

  • Meet new people – Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, connect with your community, and be part of a welcoming and supportive network.
  • Learn new skills – Whether it’s helping people use technology, supporting someone emotionally, or assisting with events and administration, you’ll gain practical skills you can use both personally and professionally.
  • Gain experience – Volunteering can enhance your CV, develop transferable skills, and open doors to new career opportunities. Many of our volunteers have gone on to paid roles in care, administration, and community work.
  • Boost your wellbeing – Giving your time to help others can improve your confidence, happiness, and sense of purpose. Knowing you’ve made a difference to someone’s life is incredibly rewarding.
  • Have fun – From friendly chats and group activities to helping at events and social gatherings, volunteering with ACM is enjoyable, lively, and often full of laughter.

Volunteering Roles at ACM

Volunteering with ACM can take many forms. You might:

  • Be a Befriending or Telephone Befriending volunteer, supporting someone who feels lonely or isolated. Your conversations, companionship, and encouragement can make a huge difference to their confidence and wellbeing.
  • Help older people stay connected and safe online as a Digital Volunteer at our Digital Cafes or Scam Awareness events. You’ll help them use technology with confidence, from video calls to managing online security.
  • Support our busy community hub in Aberdare, assisting at events, helping our restaurant or reception team, and meeting lots of people along the way.
  • Be an Admin Volunteer, helping the ACM team with paperwork, phone calls, and organisation, making sure our services run smoothly.
  • Get involved in fundraising, either by running your own event or supporting one of our charity initiatives. Every penny raised helps local older people stay independent, socially active, and supported.
  • Provide transport as a Volunteer Driver, helping people get to appointments or social activities, ensuring they can stay connected to their community.

Each of these roles brings its own challenges and rewards, and no two days are the same. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like, and every contribution, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Find out more about the roles here.
